RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that graduate student
Bryan Sturges, of the baseball team, is the Massage Envy Student-Athlete of the Week.
Last week, Sturges hit .474 with three home runs, nine RBI, five runs scored, with two doubles, and 20 total bases.
Sturges started out the week with a 3-for-4 performance at UTSA where he two home runs, a double, four RBI, with a stolen a base in the 12-1 win over the Roadrunners.
Sturges then went 1-for-3 at Corpus Christi, 1-for-4 with a run scored in the series opening win at Lamar, and 1-for-4 at Lamar on Saturday before posting another 3-for-4 performance to help clinch the series win over Lamar.
In Sunday's win, Sturges hit his third home run of the week to go along with a single, a double, a run scored and a career-high five RBI.
On the season, Sturges is batting .318 with eighth home runs, 15 doubles, a team-leading 44 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. Sturges has posted .547 slugging percentage, which ranks third on the team, and a .413 on-base percentage.
Sturges ranks ninth in the Western Athletic Conference in RBI, seventh in doubles, and tied for sixth in stolen bases.
UTRGV plays its final three home games against first place Sam Houston in a series presented by
G3 Scrap Metal starting Friday at 7 p.m. at UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
