RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that freshman
Preston Saiz, of the women's golf team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Saiz led the Vaqueros last week at The Clash at Boulder Creek and in the match play event against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Saiz recorded the best three-round score of her first semester as she posted a 221, tying with teammate
Natalia Rodriguez for 48
th. Saiz opened with a first round 76 but followed that with her first-collegiate round of under-par with a one-under 71 in the second. Saiz closed out the tournament with a two-over par 74.
Saiz then closed out the week by scoring a point in the match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as she beat Samantha Gibb 4 & 3 for UTRGV's second point of the match.
Saiz played in all four tournaments to open her UTRGV career and has averaged a 77.3 stroke average.
