LAREDO –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team finished in 16^th place to close out the Border Olympics on Tuesday at Laredo Country Club.
 
The Vaqueros posted a final round team score of 308 to finish with a three-round score of 915. UTRGV finished five shots back of Miami (OH) and Western Carolina for 14^th and six shots back of Bowling Green for 13^th. 
 
Junior Javier Neria Garcia cracked the top-25 as he finished tied for 24^th with a three-round score of 222. Garcia posted a team-best final round score of two-over 74. 
 
Junior Leonardo Novella finished tied for 62^nd with a three-round score of 230 after posting a final round 77. Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 73^rd after turning in a final round 79 for a three-round score of 234. 
 
Junior Carlos Roldos finished tied for 77^th with a three-round score of 236 after carding a final round 83 and redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland finished tied for 81^st with a three-round score of 237 after a final round 78. 
 
Baylor held on to their first day lead to win the team title with a three-round score of 856 as they posted a final round 293. Houston's Santiago De La Fuente won the individual championship with a three-round score of 212 after a final round 71. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action Feb. 20-21 when they tee it up at the Bayou Classic, hosted by Rice, at Westwood Golf Club.
