HOUSTON –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team sits in 15^th place after the first two rounds of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday at Westwood Golf Club.
 
The Vaqueros opened with a first round 300 before posting a second round 301 for a two-round total of 601. UTRGV sits five shots back of Houston Christian for 14^th and 10 shots back of Southern Illinois for 13^th.
 
Junior Javier Neira Garcia led the Vaqueros on the first day with a two-round total of 144 and sits tied for 28^th. Garcia turned in a first round one-over par 73 and then carded a one-under par 71 in the second round. 
 
Junior Leonardo Novella is currently tied for 71^st with a two-round total of 152 after posting back-to-back rounds of 76. Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque and freshman Henry Wang are tied for 75^th with two-round totals of 153. Duque opened with a first round 77 before improving with a second round 76 while Wang posted a first round 75 before posting a second round 78. 
 
Redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland is tied for 79^th with a two-round total of 154 after posting rounds of 76 and 78. 
 
Sam Houston holds the first day team lead with a two-round total of 558 after posting rounds of 277 and 281. Sam Houston's Bret Gray holds the individual lead after the first day with a two-round total of 135 with rounds of 69 and 66. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Tuesday for the final round with the first group teeing off at 8:24 a.m.
