SPOKANE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field graduate student thrower
Marlene Gutierrez and junior sprinter
Aisha Gay both earned medals during the final day of competition at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Championships at The Podium in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday.
Gutierrez won silver in the women's weight throw with a personal-best throw of 19.23 meters – the second-best throw in program history.
Gay won bronze in the women's 400-meter dash, finishing in 55.07 – the third best time in program history. She also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash, running the fifth best time in program history of 24.64.
UTRGV's women's team finished ninth of 12 teams with 37 points. The men's team was 10
th with five points. Stephen F. Austin (99.5 points) won the women'st title and Grand Canyon (139.5) won the men's title.

Symoria Adkins placed fourth in the women's 60-meter dash and turned in the second-best performance in program history as she ran 8.53. Graduate student
Jada Hoffman finished eighth in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.63, tying her own fifth-best run in program history.
