Men's Golf Improves by 15 Strokes in the Second Round of the All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team improved by 15 strokes from the first round to the second round at the All-American Intercollegiate on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
The Vaqueros opened with a first round 315 before turning in a 300 in the second. It was the biggest improvement in the second round by any team in the tournament. UTRGV is currently in 20th place after the first day with a two-round total of 615 and are just three strokes back of Abilene Christian for 19th
 
Junior Javier Neira Garcia leads UTRGV after the first day with a two-round total of 146 and is tied for 28th. Garcia opened with a first round 76 before posting a two-under par 70. Freshman Henry Wang is tied for 85th with a two-round total of 154 after posting back-to-back rounds of 77. 
 
Redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland is tied for 89th with a two-round total of 156 after posting a first round 81 and then improving in the second with a 75. Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque is tied for 101st with a two-round total of 159 after posting rounds of 81 and 78. 
 
Junior Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi is tied for 105th with two-round total of 159 with rounds of 81 and 78. Junior Leonardo Novella, who is playing in the individual tournament, is tied for 16th with a two-round total of 151 as he turned in a first round 78 and then improved in the second round with a one-over par 73. 
 
Louisville holds the team lead after the first day with a two-round total of 566 after posting rounds of 278 and 288. Houston's Santiago De La Fuente and Tennessee's Jake Hall hold the individual lead with a two-round total of 137.  
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Tuesday for the final round with play starting at 8 a.m.
