KERRVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team returns to Kerrville to host the 2023 Big Texan starting on Monday at Riverhill Country Club.
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday with play starting with the first groups teeing off at 7:54 a.m.
Riverhill Country Club plays 7,137 yards and is a par 72. This will be the first time the Big Texan will be hosted at Riverhill Country Club after hosting previously at Comanche Trace.
The Competition
There will be a 13-team field that will include UTRGV, Houston Christian, New Orleans, Stephen F. Austin, Odessa College, Midland College, Tarleton, Texas A&M-Commerce, Incarnate Word, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas Southern, Ranger College, and Schreiner with individuals from TCU and Texas Tech.

The Vaqueros finished in 20
th at the 2023 All-American Intercollegiate in Houston. UTRGV finished with a three-round score of 920 after posting rounds of 315, 304, and 305.
Javier Neira Garcia led the Vaqueros with a three-round score of 223 with rounds of 76, 70, and 77. Garcia finished tied for 48
th.
Henry Wang finished tied for 80
th with a three-round score of 230 after turning in rounds of 77, 77, and 76.
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque and
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 96
th with a three-round score of 235. Duque posted rounds of 81, 77, and 76 while Sutherland posted rounds of 81, 75, and 79.
Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi finished tied for 104
th with a three-round score of 239 with rounds of 84, 79, and 76.
Leonardo Novella, who played in the individual tournament, finished in 18
th with a three-round score of 227 with rounds of 78, 73, and 76.
Last Year at the Big Texan
The Vaqueros finished in fifth place at last year's Big Texan, which was hosted at Comanche Trave, after finishing with a three-round score of 889. UTRGV posted rounds of 303, 288 and 298.
Taj Sutherland led the way as he finished tied for seventh with a three-round score of 219. Sutherland carded rounds of 78, 69, and 72.
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished in 12
th place with a three-round score of 221 after posting rounds of 72, 73, and 76.
Sebastian Lundberg finished tied for 26
th with a three-round score of 225 with three-straight rounds of 75.
Leonardo Novella finished tied for 29
th with a three-round score of 227 with rounds of 78, 71, and 78.
Edmundo Mesta, who was competing in his first collegiate tournament, finished tied for 51
st with a three-round score of 235 after rounds of 80, 80, and 75.
Seton Hall won the team title with a three-round score of 876 after turning in rounds of 290, 287, and 299.
Northern Colorado's TJ Shehee won the individual championship with a three-round score of 212.
