KERRVILLE –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team came back to win the Big Texan by two strokes over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at Riverhill Country Club.
 
The Vaqueros entered the day in third place and started four strokes back of Southeastern Louisiana as they posted a final round 293, the best team score in the final round of the tournament, to secure their first win since the 2021 Colin Montgomerie Invitational. 
 
Junior Javier Neira Garcia paced the Vaqueros as he finished in ninth place with a three-round 216 after posting a final round one-over par 73. Garcia helped secure the win with a birdie on the 18^th hole as both teams were neck-and-neck heading into the final hole. 
 
Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished in a tie for 10^th with a two-round score of 217 after posting a final round even par 72. Redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland also posted a final round even par 72 as he finished tied for 16^th with a three-round score 219. 
 
Freshman Henry Wang finished tied for 27^th with a three-round score of 222 after carding a final round 76. Junior Leonardo Novella finished tied for 33^rd with a three-round score of 224 after posting a final round 77 and junior Carlos Roldos, who was playing as an individual, finished tied for 33^rd with a three-round score of 224 after a final round 75. 
 
Texas Tech's Baard Skogen and Gustav Andersson finished tied for first in the individual standings with three-round scores of 211. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action from April 3-4 at the Huntsville Toyota Walden Invitational, hosted by Sam Houston, at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course. Surpasses
