SUGARLAND – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team sits in 11^th place with a team score of 588 after the first 36 holes of the Colin Montgomerie Invitational hosted by Houston Christian played Monday at the Sweetwater Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros posted a 296 in the first round and improved by four strokes to 292 in the second round. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. 
 
Southeastern Louisiana leads the 15-team field with a score of 562. UTRGV is six-strokes out of the top 10 heading into the final day, sitting behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Omaha, which are tied at 582. 
 
Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque is leading the Vaqueros with a two-round score of 139, which is five under par and tied for ninth in the individual standings. He is five strokes behind the leader, Tarleton's Jack Anderson. Duque shot 70 in the first round and improved to 69 in the second. 
 
Junior Javier Neira Garcia is in a six-way tie for 11^th after shooting 67 in the first round and 73 in the second. Redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland shot 79 in Round 1, then improved by four strokes to post a 75 in Round 2 and sits in 70^th place. 
 
Junior Leonardo Novella also improved in the second round Monday. He is tied for 71^st with a score of 155 after posting 80 in the first round and 75 in the second. Sophomore Carlos Roldos improved by six strokes from the first round (82) to the second (76). He is in a three-way tie for 74^th heading into the final round.
