SUGARLAND – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team finished 11
th with a team score of 882 at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational hosted by Houston Christian at the Sweetwater Country Club.
The Vaqueros posted a third-round score of 294 on Tuesday after shooting 296 in the first round and 292 in the second round, both played Monday. Weber State finished atop the team standings with a score of 845, followed by Incarnate Word (851) and Tarleton (854). UTRGV finished ahead of Texas Southern (889), Prairie View A&M (893), North Dakota (898) and HCU – B Team (911).
Junior
Javier Neira Garcia was UTRGV's top finisher, tying with four other golfers for 10
th place with a score of 211. He turned in a score of 71 in Round 3. Garcia finished seven strokes behind the leader, Tarleton's
Jack Anderson (204).
Sophomore
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 17
th after posting a third-round score of 75 for a three-round total of 214. Redshirt sophomore
Taj Sutherland turned in his best performance in Round 3, posting 74 to bring his total score to 228 and finish tied for 63
rd.
Junior
Leonardo Novella also had his best round on Tuesday, shooting 74 and finishing 66
th with a score of 229. Sophomore
Carlos Roldos used his best round of 75 to finish with a three-round score of 233 and tied for 72
nd.
UTRGV's next tournament is the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston March 20-21.
