RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that graduate student Colten Davis, of the baseball team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Davis, who earned the UTRGV Legacy Award, helped UTRGV clinch a series win over Abilene Christian on Saturday.
 
Davis pitched a career-high eight scoreless innings while striking out a career-high 12 in a 10-inning 2-1 win over Abilene Christian. Davis scattered just three hits, all singles, and didn't walk anybody. 
 
Davis also earned Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week honors becoming the third UTRGV baseball player to earn the honor this season. 
 
In 2023, Davis is 3-2 and is sporting a career-best 3.86 ERA over 53.2 innings pitched. Davis has already set a career-high for strikeouts in a season with 61 while opponents are batting .260 against him. 
 
Davis' 3.86 ERA ranks eighth in the Western Athletic Conference while also ranking 11^th in opposing batting average, eighth in innings pitched, and fourth in strikeouts. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the University of the Incarnate Word at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Baseball Stadium.
