Men's Golf Posts Another Round Under Par to Finish in Ninth at WAC Championship

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team posted their second-straight under par round with a 282 in the final round of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship to finish in ninth place on Sunday at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

The Vaqueros finished with a three-round score of 861 as the moved up one spot in the standings to finish ahead of Tarleton, California Baptist, Southern Utah, and Stephen F. Austin.

A day after posting a career-best round of four-under 68, sophomore Juan Luis de Bethncourt Duque posted a new career-best with a six-under 66 to lead the Vaqueros in the final round. Duque finished with a three-round score of 210 as he tied for 11^th.

Junior Javier Neira Garcia finished tied for 17^th with a three-round score of 212 after carding a final round one-under par 71. Junior Leonardo Novella finished tied for 20^th with a three-round score of 213 after a second-straight round of under with a final round two-under par 70.

Redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland is tied for 55^th with a three-round score of 227 after posting a final round 75. Freshman Henry Wang finished tied for 58^th with a three-round score of 229 after a final round 76.

Grand Canyon won the team championship with a three-round score of 830 after posting a final round 277. New Mexico State's Garrison Smith won the individual championship with a three-round score of 197 after a final round 68.
