RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque, of the men's golf team,is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Duque led the Vaqueros at the Western Athletic Conference Championship last week at Boulder Creek Golf Club as the Vaqueros finished in ninth place.
Individually, Duque finished tied for 11
th with a career-best three-round score of 210. Duque opened with a first round 76 but turned things around in the second round with a then career-best four-under 68.
In the final round, Duque improved on his career-best with a final round six-under 66, which is tied for the fifth-lowest single round score in program history, as he recorded eight birdies, eight pars, and two bogeys.
Duque posted a 73.94 stroke average throughout the 2022-23 season while competing in 11 tournaments. Duque posted three top-15 finishes and recorded 11 rounds of even par or better.
