RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that the women's basketball team will host 33-time NCAA Tournament participant Texas on Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena as part of its nine-game non-conference schedule. 
 
This is the 11^th meeting all-time between UTRGV and Texas and just the second game to take place in the Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV and Texas played at the UTRGV Fieldhouse on Dec. 20, 2018.

"We have a tremendous non-conference schedule that we are really proud of," UTRGV Head Coach Lane Lord said. "The non-conference season is capped off by the University of Texas at Bert Ogden Arena. Texas will probably be top-10 in the country so we'll get a chance to play one of the best right here in the Valley. We are so excited about that game."
 
The regular season for the Vaqueros will begin on the road on Nov. 7 at Texas Tech before hosting Florida International, as part of the scheduling initiative with C-USA, for the home opener on Nov. 10. 
 
The Vaqueros will then visit Texas State on Nov. 17 followed by a visit to Incarnate Word on Nov. 19. UTRGV returns home on Nov. 22 to host Oral Roberts before the start of Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play.
 
"We feel like we have really challenged ourselves with the non-conference," Lord said. "We can't wait to get started. We are excited about the release of the schedule. I can't wait for our fans to come out and watch us play."
 
After a pair of WAC games, the Vaqueros visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Dec. 2 and then will host the Islanders on Dec. 5 with both games coming as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union.
 
After the Texas game, the Vaqueros will visit Sam Houston on Dec. 30 to close out their portion of the scheduling initiative with C-USA before jumping right back into WAC play. The WAC Tournament will run from March 13-16 at Orleans Arena.
