RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that the women's soccer team will open their 10-match Southland Conference schedule on September 22 against Texas A&M-Commerce at 12 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
 
The Vaqueros will start off Southland play with home matches in four out of the first five. Following their match with Texas A&M-Commerce, the Vaqueros hit the road to faced Lamar on Sept. 27. 
 
UTRGV then comes home to face McNeese on Sept. 29, Houston Christian on Oct. 4, and Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 6.  
 
"Everybody is excited about moving to the Southland," UTRGV head coach Mark Foster said. "Now that we have a schedule to look at, it feels real, and I couldn't be more excited. Five matches at home and five away is a really good balance. Since the conference move was announced, I have had time to watch some of the Southland teams play and I think it's going to be a really competitive season. With the new signings we've made, combined with our returners, I think we'll have a much-improved team next year and I can't wait to see how we compete in the new league."
 
The Vaqueros then close out the season with four of their last five games on the road starting at Incarnate Word on Oct. 11. UTRGV will host Nicholls in their final home match on Oct. 18 before visiting Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 25, Northwestern State on Oct. 27, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 1. 
 
The Southland Conference Tournament will be held in Corpus Christi from Nov. 5-10 with the winner earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
