RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team learned on Tuesday that senior defender Abbie Bailey has been selected as the Southland Conference (SLC) Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Bailey helped lead the Vaqueros to a pair of wins over Howard Payne and Arkansas-Pine Bluff last week. She anchored a defense that recorded two shutouts that stretched their streak to three-straight shutouts. 
 
In total, UTRGV allowed just two shots last week with none allowed on goal. 
 
Bailey also scored her first goal of the season converting on a penalty kick in the win over Howard Payne. Bailey has played a full 90 minutes in each match this season. 
 
The Vaqueros are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 12 when they host Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Attendance is free but fans will need a digital pass to gain entrance. Fans can sign up for the UTRGV Soccer Pass at GoUTRGV.com/SoccerPass. A clear bag policy is in place at the facility.
