LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros indoor track & field teams had a plethora of strong performances, particularly on the track, Friday to begin the Jarvis Scott Invite at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.
For the third consecutive meet, UTRGV saw a program record fall, this time courtesy of junior
Lilliana Guerrero. She led a dynamic women's 800-meter trio which collected three personal bests and two top-10 finishes. Guerrero ran 2:12.20 to set the program record performance as she won her heat and finished sixth overall.
Sophomore
Kailey Salazar lowered her best time to 2:12.76 in the 800-meter run as she finished ninth in the second-best time in program history. Senior Brownsville Porter alum
Estrella Medellin was 18
th and claimed the No. 7 performance in the record books in 2:14.42.
Junior
Nayla Harris won her prelim heat and was sixth in the semifinals to advance to the final of the women's 60-meter dash. Harris finished third in 7.34 and ran the third, fourth and sixth fastest times in program history throughout the day.
Four Vaqueros advanced from the men's 60-meter dash prelims to the semifinals with junior
Corin Burns leading the pack. Burns and freshman
Richard Young finished sixth and seventh in the semis to advance to finals, running 6.68 and 6.69, respectively, to take the top two spots in the program record books. Burns' speedy time broke his own program record set two weeks ago. In the final, Young ran 6.71 to finish fourth, making his second entry into the history books by tying the No. 3 time. Burns took seventh.
The women's 60-meter hurdle duo of freshmen
Krystan Bright and
Trezur Connley showed great improvement in competitive races. Both Vaqueros clocked their best times of the season in the prelims to punch their tickets to semifinals. Bright ran a PR 8.42 to advance to the final, tying the No. 4 time in program history. Connley also ran a PR to finish 13
th in 8.59. In the final, Bright took fifth in 8.54.
UTRGV's men's 400-meter dash group also made a statement, earning five personal bests and making four entries into the program record books. Junior
Derrius Henry led the way in 17
th with a personal best time of 47.68, ranking third in program history. Fellow juniors
Sam Johnson II and
Jamari Harts were 18
th and 19
th, respectively, with their best times of 47.80 and 47.80. Johnson tied the fifth-fastest race in school history and Harts took the No.7 spot. Junior Brownsville Hanna alum
Alejandro Arellano was 26
th in 48.01, a new PB and the eighth best time in program history. Junior
Jaylen Critton also ran a personal best.
Senior
Zoë Adams led the women's 400-meter dash runners with a 23
rd place finish while junior Brownsville Hanna alum
Aliyah Castillo tabbed a personal best. Freshman
Jizzale Davis also ran a personal best in the prelims of the women's 60-meter dash. Junior
Abraham Morales ran a PR time of 1:54.88 in the men's 800-meter run.

Overall, the Vaqueros collected 18 personal bests during the first day of competition at Texas Tech. They made 16 entries into the program record books. The Jarvis Scott Invite wraps up Saturday at the Sports Performance Center starting at 11 a.m.
