Harris Sets Program Record as Track & Field Wraps Up Bobcat Invitational

SAN MARCOS – Junior Nayla Harris set a new The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) outdoor track & field program record in the women's 100-meter dash Saturday as the Vaqueros wrapped up competition at the Bobcat Invitational at the Texas State Track & Field Complex.

Harris finished fourth in the event, running 11.37 to take the top spot in the UTRGV record books and enter the top 20 in the nation with the personal best. Freshman Jizzale Davis was 20th in 11.89.

UTRGV's 400-meter runners turned in some of their top performances of the young season in the A sections. In the women's race, senior Zoe Adams led the pack with a fourth-place finish in 54.74, a season best. Senior Trinity Kirk also ran a season best to take 23rd. In the men's 400 race, sophomore Brownsville Hanna alum Alejandro Arellano and junior Derrius Henry both clocked personal bests. Arellano ran 46.99 – the No. 9 time in program history – to finish seventh. Henry was 12th in 47.20, and junior Cerrone Thompson turned in a season best to round out a good event for the trio.

Freshman Krystan Bright got the Vaqueros started on the track with a solid performance in Section A of the women's 100-meter hurdles. She ran a personal best 13.80 to finish fourth, tying the program's 10th-fastest race. Fellow freshman Trezur Connley placed 15th in her outdoor debut.

The women's throwing duo of junior Hannah Hilding and senior Efe Latham tabbed a pair of season bests in Section A of the women's hammer throw. Hilding took ninth with a toss of 54.84 meters and Latham was 15th with a throw of 53.08 meters. Latham later marked a personal best 14.65 meters to finish seventh in Section A of the women's shot put, recording two throws of over 48 feet.

Junior Aaron Cooper and sophomore Hebrew Hunter both made the finals in the men's triple jump. Cooper marked 15.35 meters in a fifth-place finish, making another entry into the outdoor program record books with the No. 4 mark. Hunter had a season-best jump of 14.95 meters to take ninth. In the women's high jump, junior Achol Maywin tied for eighth with a clearance of 1.66 meters. That mark ties the seventh-best in program history, making her 2-for-2 with outdoor record book entries this season.

In the men's 110-meter hurdles Section A, junior Jaylen Critton and sophomore James Voss both made outdoor record book entries. Critton ran 14.45, taking the No. 5 spot, and Voss ran 14.58 in his outdoor debut to take the No. 8 spot. Sophomore Weslaco East alum Gael Romo led UTRGV's men's 100-meter dashers with a 32nd place finish in 10.58.

UTRGV finished the three-day meet with 13 personal bests and 11 outdoor record book entries, including one program record. The next meet for the Vaqueros will be the Cactus Cup in Kingsville on April 12.
