HOUSTON – Junior
Hannah Hilding won The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's (UTRGV) first Southland Conference (SLC) outdoor championship Thursday as she claimed gold in women's hammer throw at Rice's Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field.
Hilding went into the meet ranked No. 1 in the event and came through to defend her spot, throwing 56.76 meters in the victory. Senior
Efe Latham followed in fourth with a mark of 51.42 meters to put crucial points on the board for the Vaqueros.
On the track, UTRGV punched six tickets to finals. The headlining event was the women's 200-meter dash in which the Vaqueros went 3-for-3 with runners advancing to Saturday's race. Freshman
Jizzale Davis led the pack with a personal-best race, qualifying with the No. 2 time of 23.53. Senior

Nayla Harris took seventh and eighth in the preliminary race with season- and personal-best times of 24.23 and 24.25, respectively. Davis's performance was the second-fastest outdoor 200 in program history.
Another fresham to shine was
Krystan Bright, who advanced to finals as the No. 6 time qualifier in the women's 400-meter hurdles. In the men's 400 hurdles, senior
