RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team welcomed nearly 50 kids to the Brownsville Sports Park for a kids camp on Monday. 
 
Campers were broken up into groups based on age and were able to interact with the entire squad. Campers went through various stations that made the training concepts fun and campers were able to put their skills to the test with mini scrimmages. 
 
"It was brilliant tonight," UTRGV Head Coach Mark Foster said. "We had boys and girls from different ages. Everyone looked like they were having a good time with lots of smiles and lots of energy. It was really good to be back in Brownsville. We've been down here a few times and it's always been a success and tonight was again."
 
Following the camp, campers were able to sit and watch the Vaqueros have a practice of their own. 
 
Since arriving in the Rio Grande Valley, Coach Foster has seen the passion the Valley has for soccer and knows the importance of continuing to grow the game in the region. 
 
Coach Foster says it's important to be in the community to be an example to the next generation of soccer athletes.
 
"It's important that the whole community knows that we are here," Foster said. "That we want to be a part of this community and that we want to be a team that these boys and girls can look up to and feel inspired by. Hopefully they enjoyed it, and we can see them in the stands for some of our games this season."
 
The Vaqueros continue to get ready for their season opener on Aug. 14 when they host Tarleton State at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex at 6:30 p.m.
 
The Vaqueros will have a pair of exhibition matches this week with the first coming on Thursday against Monterrey Tech at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex with the second coming on Saturday at Texas A&M.
