WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is set to kick off their fall season when they tee it up at the JT Poston Invitational starting on Sunday at Waynesville Inn and Golf Club.
The 54-hole event will feature 18 holes each day Sunday through Tuesday with play starting at 8 a.m. each day.
Waynesville Inn and Golf Club plays 6,720 yards and is a par 70.
The Competition
There will be a 15-team field that will feature UTRGV, host Western Carolina, Morehead State, Francis Marion, Southern Mississippi, Drexel, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Jacksonville, Elon, Lipscomb, Wofford, Abilene Christian, James Madison, and Kennesaw State.
Starting Five
Making Their Debuts
Three of the four newcomers for the Vaqueros in 2025-26 will make their debut at the JT Poston Invitational.
Rodolphe Cicala,
Gabriel Dulon Villoslada, and
Jorge Martin Sampedro will make their collegiate Division I debuts.
Cicala and Villoslada were teammates at Faulkner University where they earned NAIA All-American honors. Cicala earned first team honors after qualifying for the NAIA National Championship and recorded a 69.6 scoring average.
Villoslada earned second team honors after finishing with a 70.7 stroke average.
Last Year at the JT Poston Invitational
The Vaqueros finished in 14
th place in last season's JT Poston Invitational with a three-round score of 874. UTRGV posted rounds of 291, 295, and 288.
Arthit Kruaprayong led the Vaqueros with a seventh place finish with a three-round score of 209 after carding rounds of 71, 67, and 71. Luis Limón finished tied for 46
th with a three-round score of 220 with rounds of 75, 73, and 72.
Juan Luis De Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 55
th with a three-round score of 221 after rounds of 74, 77, and 70.
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 73
rd with a three-round score of 225 after posting rounds of 72, 78, and 75.
Esteban Gonzalez tied for 82
nd with a three-round score of 227 with rounds of 74, 78, and 75.
Eddie Lai finished tied for 70
th as an individual with a three-round score of 224 with rounds of 68, 81, and 75.
Lipscomb won the tournament with a three-round score of 829 with rounds of 274, 269, and 286. Lipscomb's Alejandro Rodriguez won the individual title with a three-round score of 200.
