WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is tied for sixth place after the first round of the JT Poston Invitational on Sunday at Waynesville Inn & Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros posted a three-over par 283 in the first round and sit tied with Xavier for sixth but ahead of James Madison, Elon, Wofford, Lipscomb, Abilene Christian, Jacksonville, Morehead State, and Francis Marion. 
 
Junior Rodolphe Cicala had quite the UTRGV debut as he carded a first round three-under par 67 that puts him in tied for fourth place just three shots off the lead. 
 
Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro turned in an even under par 70 in his collegiate debut and is tied for 20^th after the first round. Senior Arthit Kruaprayong is tied for 42^nd with an opening round two-over 72. 
 
Juniors Esteban Gonzalez and Emilio Gil Leyva are tied for 63^rd after opening rounds of two-over par 74 and sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada is tied for 74^th with a first round 75. 
 
Drexel holds the team lead after the first round after posting a team score of 273. Western Carolina's Tyler Jones holds the individual lead with a first round 64. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course for the second round of the JT Poston Invitational on Monday with play starting at 8 a.m.
