Rodolphe Cicala Paces Men's Golf on First Day of Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HOUSTON – Junior Rodolphe Cicala led The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team as he is tied for 10^th place after the first day of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday at Westwood Golf Club.

Cicala has a two-round total of 142 after opening with an even par 72 and then improving in round two with a two-under 70. Cicala is tied with two others for 10^th place and is just four shots out of the top-five.

Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro is tied for 41^st with a two-round score of 149 after carding an opening round 73 and a second round 76. Freshman Brock Porter, who is making his collegiate debut, is tied for 46^th with a two-round score of 150 after posting a first round even par 72 and then followed with a second round 78.

Junior Esteban Gonzalez is also tied for 46^th with a two-round score of 150 as he opened with a first round 78 before improving with an even par 72. Senior Luis Límon is tied for 71^st with a two-round total of 156 after turning in a first round 80 and then improved with a second round 76.

Senior Arthit Kruaprayong is tied for 75^th with a two-round score of 158 with rounds of 77 and 81.

As a team, UTRGV is in eighth place with a two-round total of 590 after posting rounds of 294 and 296. Rice holds the first day lead with a two-round total of 561 after rounds of 277 and 284.

The Vaqueros will be back on the course for the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday with play starting at 8:30 a.m.
