CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team holds the lead after the first day of the Islanders Collegiate Invitational on Monday at Corpus Christi Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros opened with a first round 295 before turning in a second round 294. UTRGV holds a seven-shot lead over Houston Christian with a two-round total of 589 and lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by nine shots. 
 
Sophomore Pitchayapa Pungpho led the way for the Vaqueros on Monday as she sits in third place with a two-round total of 145. Pungpho carded round of 72 and 73 and is just two shots off the lead that is held by East Texas A&M's Linnea Olsson and McLennan Community College's Aaliyah Hryniewiecka-Irwin after they posted a two-round total of 143.
 
Sophomore Zoe Hobbs and junior Natalia Rodriguez are tied for ninth place after they each posted a two-round total of 149. Hobbs turned in rounds of 75 and 74 while Rodriguez posted rounds of 72 and 77. 
 
Sophomore Miriam Barcalova is tied for 11^th with a two-round total of 150 after posting rounds of 76 and 74. Sophomore Kieli Saenz is tied for 14^th with a two-round total of 151 after opening with a first round 78 and improving with a second round 73. 
 
Junior Camila Herrera, who is playing as an individual, is also tied for 14^th with a two-round total of 151 after carding rounds of 77 and 74. Senior Cristina Galban, who is also playing as an individual, is tied for 18^th with a two-round total of 154 with back-to-back rounds of 77. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday with the final round starting at 8:30 a.m.
