Men's Golf Set to Tee It Up at All-American Intercollegiate on Monday

HUMBLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team returns to action when they tee it up at the All-American Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Houston, starting on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes being played on Monday with the final 18 holes being played on Tuesday. Play will begin each day at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. There will be a normal team tournament and an individual tournament. 
 
The Golf Club of Houston tournament course plays 7,422 yards and is a par 72 while the members course, where the individual tournament will be played, plays 7,508 yards and is a par 72. 
 
The Competition
There will be a 16-team field that will feature UTRGV, Houston, Rice, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Eastern Michigan, Houston Christian, Lamar, Nebraska, North Texas, Odessa College, Sam Houston, Tarleton, Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington, with LSU individuals.
 
Starting Lineup  
Southland Conference Golfer of the Month
Jorge Martin Sampedro was named the Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for February.
 
Sampedro posted a 73.1 scoring average in the month of February as he posted a pair of top-10 finishes last month. 
 
Sampedro finished tied for seventh at the Compadres Collegiate helping the Vaqueros win the tournament. Sampedro carded rounds of 76, 74, and one-under 71 for a three-round total of 221. 
 
Sampedro followed that performance with a three-round score of 217 at the Border Olympics. Sampedro turned in rounds of 74, two-under par 70, and 73 en route to a tied for 22nd place finish. 
 
Sampedro then closed out the month with his second top-10 finish as he tied for eighth place at the Military City Collegiate. Sampedro posted rounds of 75, five-under 67, and 78 for a three-round total of 220 helping the Vaqueros to a second place finish.
 
On the year, Sampedro sports a 71.8 scoring average through 21 rounds.
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros the Vaqueros posted a second place finish at the Military City Collegiate, hosted by UTSA, at TPC San Antonio. 
 
UTRGV posted rounds of 294, 283, and 308 for a three-round total of 885 as they finished just four strokes behind UTSA for first place. 
 
Jorge Martin Sampedro led the way for the Vaqueros as he finished tied for eighth place with a three-round score of 220 after posting rounds of 75, 67, and 78. Esteban Gonzalez and Rodolphe Cicala finished tied for 15th with three-round scores of 223. Gonzalez posted rounds of 72, 72, and 79 while Cicala posted rounds of 71, 75, and 77. 
 
Gabriel Dulon Villoslada finished tied for 26th with a three-round score of 226 after posting rounds of 76, 73, and 77. Arthit Kruaprayong finished tied for 33rd with a three-round score of 227 with rounds of 80, 71, and 76. Brock Porter, who played as an individual, finished tied for 38th with a three-round score of 229 with rounds of 75, 72, and 82. 
 
Last Time at All-American Intercollegiate 
UTRGV finished in seventh place in last year's All-American Intercollegiate with a three-round score of 881 with scores of 283, 294, and 304. 
 
Arthit Kruaprayong led the team with a three-round score of 216 to finish tied for 12th as he opsted rounds of 68, 72, and 76. Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 21st with a three-round score of 219 with rounds of 71, 72, and 76. 
 
Luis Limón finished tied for 35th with a three-round score of 221 after carding rounds of 75, 71, and 75. Taj Sutherland and Emilio Gil Leyva finished tied for 66th with three-round scores of 232. Sutherland posted rounds of 72, 79, and 81 while Gil Leyva posted rounds of 72, 83, and 77. 
 
Juan Luis De Bethencourt Duque and Carlos Roldos competed in the individual tournament where Duque finished in 14thwith a three-round score of 226 with rounds of 76, 77, and 73 while Roldos finished in 37th with a three-round score of 242 with rounds of 78, 80, and 84. 
 
Houston won the team title with a three-round score of 844 after posting rounds of 276, 279, and 289. Troy's Jake Springer won the individual title with a three-round score of 209.
