HUMBLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is in seventh place and just four shots out of the top-five after the first day of the All-American Intercollegiate on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
The Vaqueros battled through windy conditions on Monday and opened with a first round 315 before improving by 10 strokes in the second round with a score of 305. UTRGV's two-round score of 620 puts them four strokes behind Rice and Abilene Christian for fifth place. 
 
Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada is tied for 16^th with a two-round total of 153 as he carded a first round 79 and before improving with a second round two-over par 74. Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro and junior Rodolphe Cicala are tied for 24^th with a two-round total of 155. Sampedro turned in rounds of 77 and 78 while Cicala posted rounds of 80 and 75. 
 
Senior Arthit Kruaprayong is tied for 59^th with a two-round total of 161 as he posted rounds of 83 and 78. Junior Esteban Gonzalez is in 75^th with a two-round total of 165 after posting rounds of 79 and 86. 
 
A trio of Vaqueros are competing in the individual tournament as freshman Brock Porter is tied for 10^th in that field with a two-round total of 158 after back-to-back rounds of 79. Junior Emilio Gil Leyva is tied for 18^th with a two-round total of 161 with rounds of 86 and 75 and senior Luis Limón is in 21^st with a two-round total of 162 after posting rounds of 84 and 78. 
 
No. 4 Arkansas holds the team lead through the first day with a two-round total of 597 after posting rounds of 298 and 299. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday for the final round.
