SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is just three shots off the lead and in third place after the first day of the Military City Collegiate, hosted by UTSA, on Monday at TPC San Antonio. 
 
The Vaqueros were just a handful of teams that completed the second round with play being suspended due to darkness. UTRGV posted a first round 294 before improving by 11 strokes in the second round for a two-round total of 577. Middle Tennessee holds the lead with a two-round total of 574 and Abilene Christian is in second with a 575. 
 
Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro led the way for the Vaqueros as he sits in a tie for third with a two-round total of 142. Sampedro carded a first round 75 before posting a five-under 67 in the second round, which got him within two shots off the lead held by Middle Tennessee's Maddox Crowder.
 
Junior Esteban Gonzalez is tied for seventh with a two-round total of 144 after back-to-back rounds of 72. Junior Rodolphe Cicala is tied for 13^th with a two-round total of 146 after turning in rounds of one-under 71 and a second round 75. Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada is tied for 26^th with a two-round total of 149 with rounds of 76 and 73. 
 
Senior Arthit Kruaprayong is tied for 39^th with a two-round total of 151 as he posted a first round 80 and then improved with a one-under 71 in the second round. Freshman Brock Porter, who is playing as an individual, did not finish his second round but is tied for ninth after a first round 75 and is currently two-under through 13 holes in the second round.
 
Play will resume for the second on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with the final round starting right after.
