SUGAR LAND, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team sits in eighth place after the first day of the Riverbend Intercollegiate on Monday at Riverbend Country Club.
 
The Vaqueros opened with a first round 292 and carded 310 for a two-round score of 602. UTRGV sits in sixth overall and is second among fellow Southland Conference opponents, trailing HCU (second) and ahead of East Texas A&M (ninth),Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10^th), Lamar (13^th), and UIW (16^th).
 
Junior Preston Saiz led the way for UTRGV as she sits tied for 16^th with a two-round total of 147. Saiz opened with a first round 68 before posting a 79 in the second round. Sophomore Zoe Hobbs is tied for 22^nd with a two-round total of 149 after posting a first round 72 and a second round 77.
 
Sophomore Miriam Barcalova carded a 77 in round one as she is tied for 37^th with a two-round total of 153. Senior Cristina Galban is tied for 51^st with a two-round total of 155 after opening with a first round 75 and then scoring 80 in round two.
 
Junior Natalia Rodriguez is tied for 58^th with a two-round total of 153 with back-to-back rounds of 78.
 
Louisville holds the team lead after the first day with a two-round total of 578 after posting rounds of 284 and 294. Tarleton's Louise Depadt holds the individual lead with a two-round total of 139 after rounds of 67 and 72.
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday for the final round.
