RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore Miriam Barcalova, of the women's golf team, is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Barcalova delivered a standout performance for the Vaqueros at the Southland Conference (SLC) Championship, finishing tied for second place with a three-round total of 216. She opened the tournament with an even-par 72, followed by an impressive 70 in the second round, before closing with a 74 in the final round to secure her place near the top of the leaderboard.
Barcalova achieved UTRGV's highest individual finish in a conference championship since junior Natalia Rodriguezended tied for seventh place at the 2025 SLC Championships.
Throughout the season, Barcalova proved to be a consistent and reliable force for the Vaqueros, delivering key performances in critical moments. Her poise under pressure was highlighted when she sank a clutch par putt that ultimately secured UTRGV's first-ever Southland Conference Championship.
