Men's Golf Claims Three Superlatives and Places Three on Southland All-Conference Teams

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Wednesday the 2026 Men's Golf All-Conference and Superlative Awards and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's golf team learned that Director of Golf Houston Moore was named the SLC Coach of the Year and freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro was named SLC Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year. 
 
Additionally, Sampedro and junior Rodolphe Cicala earned First Team All-Conference honors while Gabriel Dulon Villoslada earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
 
Moore guided the Vaqueros to a Southland Conference best 134 ranking in the Scoreboard rankings while posting a 288.8 scoring average. Moore also guided the Vaqueros to two wins this season that included wins at the Compadres Collegiate and the program's first-ever Southland Conference Championship, which earned the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Regional. The Vaqueros added three other top-five finishes at the Military City Collegiate, Monterrey Collegiate Classic, and the JT Poston Invitational.
 
Sampedro, who earned the program's first-ever conference player of the year and freshman of the year honors, ranks 405 in Scoreboard rankings with a team-best scoring average of 71.6. Sampedro recorded 14 rounds of even par or better while competing in 11 events and posting five top-10 finishes, including two in the top three. 
 
Sampedro finished tied for third place at the SLC Championship and added a tied for eighth place finish at the Maridoe Intercollegiate where he finished ahead of six golfers that were ranked inside the top-100. He set a program single round record with a seven-under 63 at the JT Poston Invitational where he also set a three-round program record 203.
 
Cicala ranks 621 in Scoreboard rankings with a scoring average of 72.2 while recording 13 rounds of even par or better in 11 events. He posted six top-20 finishes, three of which were top-10 as he finished tied for 18th at SLC Championship and added a 19th place finish at the All-American Intercollegiate, a 15th place finish at the Military City Collegiate, a 10thplace finish at the Compadres Collegiate, a sixth place finish at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic, and a fourth place finish at the JT Poston Invitational.
 
Villoslada ranks 715 in Scoreboard rankings with a scoring average of 72.7 in nine events. He recorded six rounds of even par or better while recording two top-10 finishes, including a seventh place finish at the SLC Championship and added a fifth place finish at the Compadres Collegiate.
 
The Vaqueros will find out which NCAA Regional they will compete in on May 6 at their NCAA Selection Show.
