Baseball Kicks Off Road Trip Tuesday at Abilene Christian

ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team (24-25) kicks off a four-game road trip against non-conference competition in preparation for the Southland Conference Tournament starting Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the Abilene Christian Wildcats (23-24) at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark.

  • UTRGV completed its third conference sweep of the season by beating UIW 5-0.
  • Junior Armani Raygoza became UTRGV's all-time leader in RBI by going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI to increase his total to 137.
  • Junior JC Gutierrez earned his first-career win by striking out a career-high tying four in a career-high 5.1 innings of hitless relief.

  • UTRGV clinched its third-straight series win with a 7-5 win over UIW.
  • UTRGV scored four runs in the sixth and one in the eighth to come from behind.
  • Kike Cienfuegos earned his seventh win by pitching 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out six.
  • Three Vaqueros had two hits, including junior Rocco Garza Gongora, who went 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI, and two runs scored, senior Hank Warren went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and junior Julius Ramirez, who finished 2-for-2 with a run scored.

  • UTRGV clinched a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with a 4-3, 10-inning victory over UIW.
  • This was UTRGV's first extra-inning home game since April 25, 2025, a 9-6, 10-inning loss to McNeese.
  • This was UTRGV's first extra-inning home win since March 15, 2025, a 10-9, 13-inning win over Nicholls.
  • Junior Evan Janner hit a walk-off single to notch his first RBI of the season.
  • Junior Easton Moomau extended his hitting streak to 18 games by going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
  • Rocco Garza Gongora went 2-for-5 with a home run and a double. Senior Hank Warren finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Graduate student Colton Vercoe pitched a career-high tying 5.0 innings of relief for the win.
