University of Texas Brownsville: Went 3-1 as a starter at UT-Brownsville before being shifted to the bullpen... pitched eight innings of scoreless, one-hit ball against Galveston, which was the top ranked team at the time.

Homer Hanna High School: Earned All-City and All-District honors at Homer Hanna High School... Went 2-0 in the playoffs as a senior with two complete games and two home runs...
