SAN MARCOS, Texas - The University of Texas - Pan American men's basketball team continue their season long seven game road trip on Tuesday night as the Broncs face off against the Bobcats of Texas State University. Tip-off at Strahan Coliseum is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The Broncs (3-13) will be looking to end a seven game losing streak on Tuesday. On Sunday UTPA dropped a road contest at Tulane 88-65. The Broncs led by as many as 10 points in the first half against the Green Wave, but could not hold onto the lead thanks to Tulane's strong outside shooting.
Perry Petty led the Broncs in scoring, rebounding and assists with 19 points six assists and seven boards. Urbanus finished the night with 15 points and was the only other Bronc in double-figures. Mierzycki scored nine points and hauled in three rebounds. The Broncs were 9-20 from behind the three-point line (45%).
UTPA's last victory coming against Victory University on December 5th at the UTPA FIeldhouse. The Broncs last road victory came at the end of last season when they knocked of Great West Conference rival North Dakota in the regular season finale. The Broncs last win outside the Fieldhouse was a 67-53 neutral site victory over Eastern Kentucky on November 13th at the Nick Kladis Classic in Chicago. a
The Broncs are led by Petty's 17.1 points per game. Petty also leads the Broncs in assists (3.1) and steals (2.0) and is second on the club in rebounding at 5.2 per contest.
Aaron Urbanus is the only other Bronc averaging double figures at 12.1 points per game. Urbanus also leads the club in three-pointers made (2.2). The three-guard starting line-up of Petty, Urbanus and

Matt Mierzycki leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 per game.
The Broncs are averaging 67.7 points per game and shoot 42 percent from the field Tuesday's game is the second of seven straight on the road for UTPA. The Broncs don't play a single home game in the month of January.
Texas State (4-9) is looking for their second straight win after beating UT Tyler 80-59 on New Year's Eve. The Bobcats are led by team captains Cameron Johnson and Tony Bishop; Texas State's top scorers and rebounders. Texas State has scored 72+ points in each of its last four games, going 2-2. The Bobcats are shooting 45 percent from the field and average 78.2 points per game.
Johnson leads Texas State in scoring at 12.5 points per game. Bishop is the only other double-digit scorer at 10.3 while also leading the team in rebounding at 7.4 per game. The Bobcats are 16th in the country in personal fouls by averaging 22.6 fouls per game. They also rank 27th in the country in steals per game at 9.2.
This is the second meeting of the season between the in-state rivals. Texas State knocked off the Broncs 76-63 at the UTPA Fieldhouse on November 20th. Provost scored a team-high 17 points, but the Broncs could not find consistent offense, as they shot just 31% from the field in the loss.
Much like every match-up between these two non-conference foes, the last meeting was a physical one that saw 50 combined fouls called. The Bobcats forced 20 UTPA turnovers, which they converted into 23 points. Eddie Rios led Texas State in scoring with 20 points off the bench. Bishop finished a pair of rebounds shy of a double-double scoring 15 points. A.J. Stewart scored nine points and hauled in nine boards, while Johnson scored nine with seven boards. The Broncs have dominated the all-time series against the Bobcats as they have won 22 of the 32 meetings in the history. Last season the Broncs were handed a 80-70 loss in San Marcos on December 5, 2010.. Forward
Jared Maree scored 20 points in the loss. The Broncs last victory over Texas State came during the 2007-08 season, an 83-78 win in San Marcos. The Broncs and Bobcats have been bitter rivals recently splitting the home-and-home season series in the 2007-08, 2006-07, and 2005-06 seasons.
