Women's Tennis Drops Match at Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, Louisiana – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team defeated the Louisiana Tech University Lady Techsters 6-1 on Saturday at the Lady Techster Tennis Complex.
 
Wanda Beguelin earned the Broncs' (1-4) lone point, defeating Maria Coronel in the #4 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
 
The Lady Techsters (5-2) won the other five singles matches in straight sets, including a double bagel in the #6 spot, when Alena Erofeyeva beat Cindy Sands 6-0, 6-0. Dana Nazarova played a strong match against Laura Fernandez in the #1 spot, falling 6-2, 6-4. Malin Andersen fell in the #2 spot to Vivian ten Dolle 6-4, 6-2.
 
In doubles, the #3 duo of Blanca Garcia Izaguirre and Sands came closest to earning a win, falling to Fernandez and Erofeyeva 8-6. Beguelin and Nazarova played a competitive match with Maartje de Wit and ten Dolle in the #2 spot, falling 8-4.
 
The Broncs return to action on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. when they visit Northwestern State University.
 
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
