BROWNSVILLE, Texas -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team (4-0) makes their first ever visit to Scorpion Field when they face the University of Texas at Brownsville Scorpions (14-6) on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

What You Need to Know

  • The Broncs are looking to get off to a 5-0 start for the second year in a row. This is the 10th time in program history, dating back to 1955, that the Broncs are off to at least a 4-0 start. The Broncs were at least 5-0 five times, 6-0 twice and 9-0 once.
  • This is the third year in a row that the Broncs have won their first four games of the season.
  • The Broncs are 7-0 all-time against the Scorpions, winning by an average of 6.7 runs per game. The Broncs' largest margin of victory was in their first meeting, 15-2 (4/8/09).
  • Not counted in that 7-0 record is the Broncs' 5-0 record against Texas Southmost College, with two wins in 1958 and three in 1963. TSC, which is currently in a partnership with UTB, was a junior college at the time.

  • Trailing 5-3 after two and a half innings, the Broncs scored single runs in the eighth, ninth and tenth innings to come back to beat the Thunderbirds 6-5.
  • Shane Klemcke's walk-off single was his first hit of the season.
  • Pinch-hitter Brandon Roush's RBI-single to make it 5-4 in the eighth was his first hit of the season.
  • Roger Bernal had his third-straight game with at least three hits, going 3-for-4 with one RBI, which tied the game in the ninth.
  • The bullpen extended its scoreless innings streak to 9.2 as Guadalupe Barrera struck out three in three innings and Dylan Badura picked up the win his Broncs debut with two perfect innings in which he struck out two.

Broncs vs. Southern Utah University Thunderbirds (1) (2/26/12)
  • Down 5-1 after five and a half innings, the Broncs scored nine unanswered runs to beat the Thunderbirds 10-5.
  • Colby McCasland struck out six in 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to record the win in his Broncs' debut.
  • Roger Bernal collected a career-high tying four hits (4-for-5) while scoring a career-high four runs.
  • Derek Hagy and Angel Ibanez each went 3-for-5, teaming with Bernal to make the Broncs' top three hitters in the batting order a combined 10-for-15.

Broncs vs. University of Texas at Brownsville Scorpions (2/21/12)
  • The Broncs beat the Scorpions 13-1 in a game that was called after six and a half innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
  • Mike McCarthy hit a two-run home run in the second inning, matching his season total from last season. He finished 3-for-3 with four RBI.
  • In his Broncs debut, Derek Hagy went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
  • Jason Webb reached base in all four plate appearances, collecting a double, a triple and two walks while scoring a career-high three runs.
