EDINBURG, Texas -- The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team (15-6, 3-0 GWC) goes for the four-game sweep of the New York Institute of Technology Bears (2-18, 0-3 GWC) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Gates open at 11:00 a.m.

The Series

Broncs vs. New York Institute of Technology Bears (2) (4/6/12) 
  • The Broncs won 13-3 to win by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule for the seventh time this season and second time in as many days.
  • Dusten Knight pitched his second complete game of the season, striking out seven in seven innings while allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk.
  • Making his second start of the season, Mission-native and Sharyland High School alum Iradier Hernandez came through with his first-ever home run at home, the second of his career, a two-run shot in the second inning. The senior had last homered on April 24, 2010 at NJIT.
  • Will Klausing reached base in all five plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two walks and a hit by pitch. He drove in a career-high three runs and scored three times.
 
Broncs vs. New York Institute of Technology Bears (1) (4/6/12)
  • All of the runs were scored in the first inning as the Broncs beat the Bears 4-1.
  • Bryan Maxwell picked up his first win since March 2, pitching six innings, striking out six. The run he allowed was unearned as his ERA dropped from 5.82 to 4.55.
  • Guadalupe Barrera recorded his first save since 2010, striking out one in a perfect seventh.
 
Broncs vs. New York Institute of Technology Bears (4/5/12)
  • This Broncs took the Great West Conference opener 11-1.
  • The Broncs won on a walk-off two-run triple by Angel Ibanez, ending the game in the eighth inning. It is the sixth time the Broncs have won by virtue of the 10-run mercy rule this season.
  • Colby McCasland pitched his season complete game with a career-high 11 strikeouts in a career-high eight innings. McCasland threw 80 of his 134 pitches for strikes (59.7%).
  • The Broncs drew a season-high 11 walks. Five of those runners scored.
