Szemik Named to United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region Third Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley women's soccer team learned on Monday that senior goal keeper Kinga Szemik was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region Third Team. 
 
In order to be eligible for Scholar All-Region recognition, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better throughout the career, started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contributed to their team, and be a junior or above in academic standing. 
 
Szemik was one of four student-athletes from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) to be named to a Scholar All-West Region Team along with Seattle U's Rachel Bowler and Jessie Ray, and Utah Valley's Hannah Bruce.
 
Szemik also earned All-WAC Second Team honors and was named to the All-WAC Tournament Team this season while also earning two WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. 
 
Szemik recorded 76 saves and six shutouts this season while wrapping up her career with 16 career shutouts. Her six shutouts this season were the second most in the WAC this season.
