RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore
Isabella Burtini, of the women's soccer team, is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Burtini made a massive impact in her return to the pitch this weekend after missing over a month of action due to injury. She scored both match-winning goals this weekend to help UTRGV earn their first two conference wins of the season against Houston Christian University (HCU) and Incarnate Word (UIW).
On Thursday, Burtini gathered a deflected shot by graduate student
Savannah Frisby and put it into the net for the game-winner. UTRGV went on to defeat HCU 1-0.
On Sunday, Burtini received a pass from sophomore
Lisa Elowsson inside the box, where she settled the ball with her left foot and then used her right foot to send the ball over the sliding goalie to down the first place UIW Cardinals.
UTRGV plays its next two matches on the road starting Thursday at 7 p.m. at McNeese.
