Men's Tennis Posts Three Victories in Opening Day of Contender CrossFit Islander Open

CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team posted three victories on the first day of the Contender CrossFit Islander Open on Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, the team of junior Misha Kvantaliani and senior Carlo Izurieta got things rolling with a come from behind win over Lamar's Max Amling and Brandon Do. Kvantaliani and Izurieta found themselves down 0-5 before winning eight-straight games to get the 8-5 victory. 
 
In singles, Izurieta picked up a three-set victory over Corpus Christi's Borja Delgado in Flight B. After opening with a 6-1 victory in the first set, Izurieta fell 3-6 in the second but battled back for a 6-1 win in the third. 
 
Freshman Sam Whitehead, who was making his UTRGV debut, picked up a 6-1, 7-5 win over UT Tyler's Leon Snell in Flight D.
