RIO GRANDE VALLEY – Bragging rights were won by Team Orange Friday as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros track & field program competed in its annual Orange & Gray intrasquad meet at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The meet win went down to the wire, but Orange slimly claimed the victory, 169-168. UTRGV's student-athletes combined for 10 meet records. There was a great energy at the track as the student-athletes cheered each other on and were supported by track & field alumni, other UTRGV sports and staff, and family and friends.
"Congratulations to Team Orange, they earned the bragging rights this particular year. I really saw a lot of potential and it makes us feel really good about the direction we're going in as a team and as a staff. When you see those numbers, the numbers don't lie, so it clearly means we're on the up and up, not only in the Western Athletic Conference but in the country," head track & field/cross country coach
Shareese Hicks said. "To have the family, friends and alumni come out and show us support, it really invigorates everyone. You want to give that extra kick because mom and dad are in the stands, your friends are in the stands, so we're really appreciative of everyone who came out."
