RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Wednesday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field freshman
Jedidiah Udunna has been named the TicketSmarter WAC Outdoor Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Udunna recorded a long jump of 7.80 meters on Friday to earn second place in the event at the Charles Austin Classic. That mark broke a 32-year-old men's outdoor program record. Udunna currently holds the No. 1 spot on the WAC performance list in men's long jump and is ranked No. 5 among all NCAA Division I men's long jumpers.
This is the first conference track & field award for UTRGV this season. Udunna was also named the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday for his performance last week, which included running a personal best as he finished eighth in the men's 100-meter dash.
Udunna and the Vaqueros are competing at the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos Thursday through Saturday.
