CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team finished in 10^th place at the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff, hosted by Missouri, on Tuesday at Dalhousie Country Club.
 
After posting a 291 in the opening round, the Vaqueros finished the second round with a team score of 299 before posting a 306 in the final round to finish with a three-round score of 896. UTRGV finished three shots back of UTEP for ninth place and seven back of New Mexico State for eighth. 
 
Senior Javier Neira Garcia led the Vaqueros with a three-round score of 219. Garcia recorded an even par 72 in the second round before finishing with a final round 77 as he finished tied for 22^nd.
 
Freshman Emilio Gil Leyva finished tied for 41^st in his first collegiate tournament with a three-round score of 225 as he posted a second round 73 and then finished the tournament with a final round 80. Junior Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 44^th with a three-round score of 226 as he carded a second round 77 and improved in the final round with a 75. 
 
Freshman and McAllen Memorial alum Esteban Gonzalez finished in 65^th with a three-round score of 233 as he wrapped up his first-career tournament with a second 77 and a final round 81. Sophomore Henry Wang finished in 72^nd with a three-round score of 239 after posting a second round 86 and posting a final round two-over par 74. 
 
LSU went on to win the team title with a three-round score of 844 as they finished seven shots ahead of host Missouri. LSU's Alex Price held on the to win the individual title with a three-round score of 205.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action from Sept. 24-26 at the UAB Graeme McDowell Invitational at RJT Golf Trail at Silver Lakes.
