MONTGOMERY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team finished in 11
th place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Bentwater Country Club.
UTRGV posted their best round of the tournament with a final round 299 as they finished with a three-round score of 909.
Senior
Javier Neira Garcia and junior
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 41
st with three-round scores of 225. Garcia and Duque each posted a final round two-over par 73.
Freshman and McAllen Memorial alum
Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 54
th with a three-round score of 229 after also posting a final round two-over par 73. Freshman
Emilio Gil Leyva finished tied for 59
th with a three-round score of 230 after posting a final round 80 and sophomore
Henry Wang finished tied for 74
th with a three-round score of 242 after posting a final round 81.
Sam Houston won the team title with a three-round score of 855 after posting a final round 281. Sam Houston's Josh German won the individual title with a three-round score of 206.
The Vaqueros will be back in action from March 7-9 at the Sea Palms Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina University, at Sea Palms Golf Resort.
