BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros track & field program had a stellar Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational, racking up 20 personal bests and 17 top-five finishes at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
UTRGV's field events saw plenty of success. Freshman
Omolola Kuponiyi made her outdoor debut and took second in the women's shot put with a toss of 14.89 meters. Sophomore
Hannah Hilding notched a personal best in the event, throwing 14.30 meters. Hilding and freshman McAllen High alum
Adelaide Fleischmann took fourth and sixth, respectively, in women's discus. Adding to the strong throws day was graduate student La Feria alum
Julian Trevino, who took seventh in men's javelin with the program's eighth-best toss of 52.39 meters.
In men's triple jump, sophomore
Aaron Cooper finished third with a mark of 14.85 meters, tying the seventh-best jump in program history. Freshman
Hebrew Hunter followed in fifth. Sophomore
Tolu Odetola also took fifth in the women's triple, hitting a personal-best 11.77 meters. Junior
Kailah Gilmore tabbed a fifth-place finish in the women's long jump, also marking a PB of 5.94 meters.
The Vaqueros ran well in the mid-distance races. Senior Brownsville Porter alum
Estrella Medellin and freshman
Kailey Salazar impressed again in the women's 800-meter run, both running personal bests. Medellin was fifth in 2:15.02 and Salazar followed in seventh in 2:15.50. Sophomore
Abraham Morales was seventh to lead the men's 1,500-meter group, which saw junior Rio grande City alum
Alex Canales and senior
Ricardo Garcia run personal bests.
The sprinters and hurdlers had a big day on the track. Sophomore
Symoria Adkins, competing in her first outdoor meet of the season, notched two second-place finishes. She tabbed the program's fourth-fastest time of 13.80 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, then led the 200-meter dash pack with a time of 23.82, also fourth-best in school history.

Aliyah Castillo all tabbed personal bests in the women's 200. Adams joined Adkins in the top-10 with a seventh-place finish. Harris was seventh in the 100-meter dash, running a PB 11.92 and tying the eighth-fastest time in program history.
Sophomore
Jamari Harts led the men's sprint group in the 200 and 100-meter dash. He was fourth in the 200, running a PB 21.33 to take the No. 6 spot in the program record books. He was fourth again in the 100, taking the No. 7 spot in the books in 10.56. Freshman Weslaco East alum
Gael Romo joined Harts in the top-10 of the 100, taking eighth.
UTRGV had three women's 400-meter runners tab personal bests, led by Adams' top time of 54.04, which placed her second and tied the sixth-fastest race in school history. Junior
Trinity Kirk was eighth and Maxey was ninth, hitting her second PB of the day in the event. Castillo also hit another PB to finish 12
th.
In the men's 400, senior
Jermarrion Stewart took fourth in 47.00, tying the No. 7 time in the record books. Sophomore
Derrius Henry hit his second PB in as many meets, running 47.96 to finish ninth. Sophomore
Sam Johnson II was also a top-10 finisher, taking fifth.
Sophomore
Jaylen Critton paced the men's hurdlers. He was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, running a PB of 52.99, good for seventh-best in program history. He also clocked a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles, running 14.97 to finish 10
th behind freshman
James Voss, who was ninth. Junior
Daniel Siaffa and junior
Jaqualand Fields were top-10 finishers with Critton in the 400 hurdles, taking eighth and ninth, respectively, while Fields tabbed a personal best.
UTRGV's women's 4x100-meter relay team of Harris, Adams, senior
Yaria Akers and Castillo clocked a season-best 45.66 as they finished third, running the second-fastest race in program history. The men's 4x100-meter relay took second as senior
Jaleel Scott, Harts, Stewart and Romo ran 40.33, good for No. 3 in the program record books.
The Vaqueros will be back in action Thursday through Saturday at the Texas Relays in Austin.
