PAYSON, Ariz.– The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team improved by 18 strokes in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship on Saturday at The Rim Golf Club at Chapparal Pines.
A day after posting a team score of 334, the Vaqueros posted a second round 316. UTRGV is in 11
th place with a two-round total of 650.
Senior
Mercedes Vega led the way for the Vaqueros with a second round 76, which was a four-stroke improvement from her first round score. Vega is tied for 32
nd with a two-round total of 156.
Freshman
Preston Saiz is tied for 46
th with a two-round total of 163 after posting a second round 83. Freshman
Camila Herrera improved by 10 strokes with a second round 77 and sits tied for 48
th with a two-round total of 164.
Junior
Catherine Flores is in 54
th with a two-round score of 169 after she posted a second round 80, which was a nine-stroke improvement from her first round. Freshman
Natalia Rodriguez is in 55
th with a two-round total of 171 after improving by four strokes in the second round with an 84.
Abilene Christian is in the lead in the team standings with a two-round total of 591 after posting a second round 293. Abilene Christian's Ryann Honea maintains her lead in the individual standings with a two-round total of 142 after turning in a second round 72.
The Vaqueros will be back on the course for the final round on Sunday as the first groups tee off at 11 a.m.
