RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team learned on Friday that they have been selected ninth in the Southland Conference (SLC) Preseason Poll, as voted on by the SLC head coaches and sports information directors.
UTRGV received 67 points in the poll ahead of Incarnate Word and Nicholls, who finished 10th and 11th, respectively.
Lamar received 20 first place votes as they were picked the favorites in the poll with 200 points. Texas A&M-Commerce received two first place votes as they finished second in the poll with 177 points. McNeese was picked to finish third with 147 points while Northwestern State finished fourth with 130 points.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi came in fifth in the poll with 112 points. Southeastern finished with 105 points to come in sixth in the poll. Stephen F. Austin finished seventh with 98 points and Houston Christian finished eighth with 81 points.
The Vaqueros have an exhibition match on Saturday against the University of Houston at 11 a.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex before opening the regular season on August 15 against Texas Southern at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
