Men's Golf Set for Spring Opener at the Compadres Collegiate

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is set to kick off their spring slate on Sunday when they host the Compadres Collegiate at Playa Paraiso Golf Club.
 
The 54-hole event will feature 18 holes each day with the tournament running through Tuesday. Play will start on each day with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
 
Playa Paraiso Golf Club plays 6,701 yards and is a par 72.
 
The Competition
There will be a 9-team field that will feature UTRGV, Western Carolina, Morehead State, Drake, UTSA, Louisiana Monroe, North Texas, Bellarmine, and Northern Colorado.

Last Time Out
The Vaqueros closed out the fall season with a tied for second place finish at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic. 
 
The Vaqueros finished with a three-round score of 854 after posting rounds of 280, 286, and 288. UTRGV held the outright lead after the first day of the tournament. 
 
Rodolphe Cicala led the Vaqueros as he came in tied for sixth with a three-round score of 210 after posting rounds of 69, 70, and 71. Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 10th with a three-round score of 211 with rounds of 67, 72, and 72. 
 
Arhit Kruaprayong finished tied for 19th with a three-round score of 215 with rounds of 72, 72, and 71. Emilio Gil Leyva finished tied for 30th with a three-round score of 218 after posting rounds of 72, 72, and 74. 
 
Jorge Martin Sampedro finished tied for 39th with a three-round score of 221 with rounds of 72, 73, and 76. Brock Porter finished tied for 52nd with a three-round score of 224 with rounds of 78, 74, and 72. 
 
Last Time at Compadres Collegiate
UTRGV finished tied for 10th at last year's Vaqueros Intercollegiate with a three-round score of 912. 
 
UTRGV posted rounds of 309, 304 and 299 as they finished tied with Wichita State.
 
Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 16th with a three-round score of 221 with rounds of 77, 68, and 76. Taj Sutherland finished tied for 42nd with a three-round score of 230 after posting rounds of 79, 76, and 75. 
 
Arthit Kruaprayong finished tied for 46th with a three-round score of 231 with rounds of 74, 86, and 71. Eddie Lai finished tied for 52nd with a three-round score of 234 after carding rounds of 80, 79, and 75. 
 
Emilio Gil Leyva and Juan Luis de Bethencourt finished tied for 54th with three-round scores of 235. Leyva posted rounds of 78, 80, and 77 while Bethencourt posted rounds of 81, 77, and 77. 
 
SMU won the team title last year with a three-round score of 864 with rounds of 293, 280, and 291. UTEP finished in second with North Texas coming in third. 
 
Louisiana Monroe's Louis Anceaux won the individual title with a three-round score of 210.
