A transfer from Butler Junior College who made a big impact in his first season with the Broncs... With the graduation of Lamberto Ung at first base, Schmidt may be called on to play more time in the field... Played exclusively as a designated hitter last season and flourished in that role.

2000 (Junior Season): Finished as the fourth leading hitter on the team with a .330 batting average... Saw action in 41 games in his first season with the Broncs, making 35 starts, all at designated hitter... His .527 on-base percentage was the best mark on the team... Strong on the base pads, stealing six of the eight bases he attempted... Finished third on the team in walks and led the team with 14 hit by pitches... That total ranks as the second highest single season total in UTPA history... Had hits in 29 of 41 games, including six multiple hit games... Collected his first hit as a Bronc in his first game, going 1-of-3 against Louisiana -Monroe (2/4)... Hit his first home run as a Bronc, a three-run shot against Southwest State (2/29)... Also was a part of the Broncs record setting back-to-back-to-back-to-back home run parade parade against WIU... That streak of four consecutive home runs was the second longest in NCAA history... Showed no fear when taking on fourth ranked Texas, going 2-of-4 with a double and a run scored (3/11). 

Butler Junior College: In his sophomore season at Butler JC, Schmidt hit .333 and belted 12 home runs... In addition, Schmidt had 22 doubles, 55 RBI, and 15 stolen bases, earning him an All-Jayhawk Conference selection.

Valley Center High School: At Valley Center High School, Schmidt lettered in three sport, baseball, football, and basketball... After receiving All-State honors in baseball and football.

Personal: Schmidt is the son of Gregory and Jennifer Schmidt... born on pril 30, 1979...  After receiving his degree, Schmidt plans to return home to help his father run his construction company... Currently majoring business management.
