Men's Tennis To Face Florida A&M Sunday

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team (5-4) will play their fourth match in four days when they face off against the Florida A&M Rattlers Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
 
The Series
 
This is the first match ever with the Florida A&M Rattlers.   
 
Last Time Out
 
The Broncs are coming off of a 6-0 sweep of Jackson State University on Thursday afternoon.
 
Senior Beau Bernstein defeated Navneet Baskaran (6-0 6-1) in the #1 spot, while sophomore Ricardo Hopker beat Carlos Martinez 6-4, 7-6 (2) in the #2 position. The third player for the Broncs, sophomore Chetan Panditi, won his match against Jose Lugue 6-1, 6-1.

In the fourth and fifth positions, the Broncs dominated their respective competitors 6-0, 6-0. Rolf Niederstrasser defeated Marko Milosavljevic and Sebastien Job defeated Philip Barnes.

The Broncs earned the doubles point as the Bernstein/Panditi doublet won 8-2 against the Baskaran/Lugue team and the Victor Alves /Niederstrasser duo won their match against Martinez and Milosavljevic.
 
Scouting the Rattlers
 
The Rattlers are coming off of a 5-2 victory over Mercer on Feb. 26 and are 7-5 on the season. 
 
Salif Kante has been solid for the Rattlers in the #1 singles position. He is 9-3 on the season and is currently on a five-match win streak.   
 
In the #2 singles position, Levan Clark is 7-3 and is currently on a four-match win streak. Takura Happy is riding a six-match win streak in the #3 singles position. 
 
 
Local Flavor
 
The Broncs have a Rio Grande Valley native on the squad. Freshman Shane Kyral is from Harlingen and was part of a Harlingen South High School team that was ranked #6 in the state, finishing as the regional runner up in the 5A school division.
 
Next Up
 
The Broncs continue their seven game road trip against the University of New Orleans on Monday March 12 at noon.
