HOUSTON – Senior Nikki Rowe High School alum Andy Lopez won the 800-meter run to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs outdoor track & field teams on Saturday during day two of the 31st Annual Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice, at Rice University Track Stadium.
 
Lopez finished with a time of 1:50.18, the second fastest of his career and third fastest in program history to earn 10 points. The men's team grabbed 19 points in the event, as junior Martin Casse came in second with a 1:51.36 for eight points and freshman PSJA Memorial High School alum Joshua Rosalez took eighth with a 1:53.33 for one point.
 
The Broncs added another 11 points in the 400-meter hurdles, as junior Dijan Johnson finished second with a 52.77 for eight points and sophomore Bryan MacDonald placed sixth with a 54.64 for three points.
 
In the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore PSJA Memorial High School alum Macario Zarate scored four points by finishing in fifth with a 14.78, the second fastest of his career and third fastest in program history.
 
Junior Mission High School alum Jesus Alvarez had a strong showing the shot put, finishing sixth with a mark of 16.17 meters for three points.
 
Overall the men's team finished with 38 points to tie for ninth place out of 22 teams.
 
The women's team finished with four points to come in 20th out of 21 teams. Saturday's top finishes included Klarissa Gonzalez coming in eighth in the discus with a 42.60, and Leocajuan Williams taking eighth in the triple jump with an 11.22.
 
The Broncs compete in two meets next week, with part of the teams going to the 86th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Wednesday through Saturday, and the rest going to the Bobcat Invitational Thursday and Friday.
